Advanced Treatments For Plantar Fasciitis

Advanced Treatments For Plantar Fasciitis: A Combination Approach With PRP and Shockwave Treatments.

Plantar fasciitis often responds very well to both mechanical and anti-inflammatory treatment approaches.  This includes appropriate shoes, prescription orthotics and stretching.  These are all helpful for the mechanical component.  As far as the inflammatory component often an ultrasound-guided cortisone injection is an effective complement for these mechanical treatments.

However, when these are not enough and plantar fasciitis continues that it's time to consider advanced treatments.

A very effective combination approach is to use platelet rich plasma injected under ultrasound guidance into the damaged plantar fascia.  Then to initiate shockwave therapy.  The shockwave therapy is done once a week for 3 weeks for moderate cases and once a week for 5 weeks for severe cases.  It is recommended to use a cast boot with the platelet rich plasma although there are instances where this can be done without the cast boot.  Shockwave therapy alone does not require a cast boot.

If you would like to find out more information about this advanced treatment approach.  Please contact our office either myself Dr. Timothy Young, or my partner Dr. Brandon Nelson.
