Platelet Rich Plasma is harvested from the patient’s own blood and then injected into the site of pain. Several studies that demonstrated instabilities to promote healing and disease tissues and PRP is a promising new treatment option for people with heel pain. Platelet rich plasma injections specifically done under ultrasound guidance have shown to be superior to corticosteroid injections and have a better long-term outcome. At the Washington Heel Pain Center, we have been utilizing platelet rich plasma injections for years and find our results to be promising.
We have seen the best results utilizing 2 platelet plasma injections approximately one month apart followed by 2 weeks of rest after each injection. In addition patients are required to no ice or massage the area after therapy, the majority of patients feel significantly better within 3 months of the first injection.
